J Střelou asked her Instagram followers to submit personal stories and used them to inspire the poems in Her Story, forming a tale of personal development.
The book uses poetry and prose to take readers on a journey into the resilience of real-life women; women who have experienced heartbreak, survived abuse, and have found healing but have not been able to tell their story until now. Starting with ‘Her Heartbreak’, every poem is inspired by a different women’s story. The book finishes with ‘Her Healing’ and the message that we can move on from our pain, forgive ourselves, and learn to love ourselves again.

Julia Střelou (known as J. Střelou) grew up on an isolated hippie commune in Nimbin (Australia) and now calls Queenstown in New Zealand home.
She is best known for her empowering quotes shared by millions of people around the world. She is an activist and advocate for survivors of family violence and was named a finalist in the 2022 New Zealand Women of Influence awards and a Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Local Hero medalist 2022. |
